Cortez Simpson is the Executive Director of “1~Stroke” Youth Development & Gang Prevention Program of Charlotte, N.C., where the goal of the program is to “Teach Youth How to Play Golf & Live Life 1 Stroke at a Time”. With Pinehurst being his birthplace, golf became a passion of Cortez’s at an early age. Cortez is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), where he was voted Mr. WSSU/Mr. RAM ‘94-’95; was a member of the CIAA Championship football team, a member of the Magnificent Marching Rams Band, and a member of the Student Government Association. Cortez graduated on the Dean's List with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. He is currently working on obtaining a Master’s Degree in Management of Human Resources. After completing his undergraduate studies, Cortez began teaching and coaching at the middle school level. He eventually taught for ten years in elementary, middle and high schools, teaching classes such as Accounting, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, and classes for EMD, EMH, and BED students. Cortez’s philosophy when it comes to dealing with our youth is “A New School Education with an Old School Foundation”.
